It is widely believed in the recruiting sector that hiring managers and recruiters spend between 6 and 8 seconds on average looking at a CV! That isn't much time to make your CV stand out!
We've compiled our top 5 do's and don'ts for putting together your CV in order to increase the likelihood of your CV standing out from the crowd.
Don’ts
- Make it more than 2 pages!
- Include a photograph or date of birth
- Use fancy fonts and write in paragraphs
- Forget to double check for spelling or grammatical errors
- Use negative language or too much jargon
Do’s
- Include contact details at the top.
- Write your career in reverse chronological order (most recent position at the top, with dates!)
- Use subheading and bullet points (no long paragraphs)
- Add a personal statement highlighting key skills (not too long though)
- Tailor your CV to specific applications where posible.
